How Much Does Glasswasher Rental Cost Per Week?

Basket size sets almost all of that spread: the 350mm and 400mm machines sit at the bottom of the range, the 500mm at the top.

Which one fits your bar? A 350mm machine suits a small café or cocktail bar washing a few dozen glasses an hour. A busy pub pouring pints all evening, on the other hand, usually needs the 400mm. What’s Included in the Rental Price?

So what does £15 a week actually buy? Every Barcare glasswasher rental includes a continual parts and labour warranty, professional installation by an engineer, and staff training, all inside the weekly price (Barcare, Glasswasher Rental, 2026). If the machine breaks down, the callout, the parts and the labour cost you nothing.

That last point is the whole economic argument for renting. For comparison, an out-of-warranty commercial repair means paying a callout charge, an hourly engineer rate and parts on top, and a single failed wash pump or heating element can run well into three figures. How Does Renting Compare with Buying Outright?

Buying a comparable commercial glasswasher outright costs roughly £700 to £2,200 in 2026. A note on model names first: Barcare lists its rental machines as the GW350, GW400 and GW500, while the equivalents you’ll find at retail are Classeq’s G-series in the same 350mm, 400mm and 500mm basket sizes. Comparing on basket size is the reliable way to line them up.

At retail, a 350mm G350 sells for around £691 (GM Supplies, 2026), a 400mm G400 lists at up to £2,200 inc VAT (Drinkstuff, 2026), and a 500mm G500 at about £1,228 (GM Supplies, 2026). Rental spreads that cost and removes repair risk.

Over three years, renting a GW400 at £75 a month totals £2,700 (+VAT). The equivalent 400mm machine to buy is listed at £2,200 inc VAT, or about £1,833 before VAT (Drinkstuff, 2026), so on paper, buying comes out roughly £870 cheaper over the same three years. That said, the gap narrows fast once you add installation, annual servicing and even one significant repair, and it says nothing about the week of lost trade while you wait for a part. Which risk would you rather carry?

Why Are More UK Venues Renting Instead of Buying in 2026?

Cost pressure, mostly. In 2026, UK hospitality faces a £1.4 billion wage bill increase as the National Living Wage rises 4.1% to £12.71 from April (UKHospitality, Budget wage analysis, 2026). Energy is squeezing from the other side. Network charges applied per site are projected to nearly double, from £3.84bn in 2025/26 to £7.52bn in 2026/27 (UKHospitality, 2026 energy shock briefing, 2026). Operators surveyed said rising costs could force them to cut jobs (64%) or cancel investment plans (51%).

When investment budgets are the first thing cut, spending £2,000 of capital on a glasswasher gets hard to justify. A rental moves the same machine into a small, predictable operating expense, and rental payments are typically an allowable business expense for tax purposes too.

What Affects the Price You’ll Pay?

Machine size drives most of the difference: at 2026 prices, moving from a 350mm to a 500mm basket nearly doubles the weekly cost, from £15.00 to £28.85 at Barcare’s published rates. Beyond size, four things shift the price or the total cost of getting a machine washing glasses:

1. Throughput. A 350mm machine washes 12 pint glasses per cycle; a 500mm washes 25. Renting a machine too small for Friday night costs more in slow service than the price difference.
2. Power supply. The GW350 and GW400 run off a standard 13-amp plug. The GW500 needs a 32-amp hard-wired supply, so factor in electrical work if you don’t have one.
3. Water treatment. Hard-water areas need a softener or regular descaling. On rental the descaling repairs are included; on an owned machine they’re your bill.
4. What the quote includes. Some hire firms quote a low headline rate, then charge for callouts or installation. Always ask what a breakdown visit costs before comparing weekly prices.

Compliance matters as well. Any machine plumbed into mains water should be WRAS approved, and that’s worth understanding before an EHO visit makes it urgent.
